How it works

Pixel picking. The image is drawn on a canvas element; clicking converts your click position to image coordinates and reads the exact RGBA value of that pixel with getImageData. The alpha channel is ignored in the reported color.

Dominant palette. The tool samples the whole image and applies median-cut quantization: the color space is split recursively at the median of its widest channel until the requested number of buckets is reached, and each bucket is averaged into one representative color. This is the standard algorithm family used by image tools — there is no official standard for palette extraction, so results may differ slightly between tools.

Privacy. There is no server side to this tool: the file is read with the browser's own File API and drawn locally. Nothing is transmitted.
