Convert between hertz, kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz. Decimal SI factors for audio, radio, processors and networking.
Hertz(Hz)
The hertz is the SI unit of frequency: one cycle per second. It is named after Heinrich Hertz and measures everything from mains electricity (50–60 Hz) to musical pitch.
Kilohertz(kHz)
A kilohertz is 1,000 hertz. AM radio broadcasts sit around 500–1,700 kHz, human hearing spans roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and audio sample rates are quoted in kHz.
Megahertz(MHz)
A megahertz is one million cycles per second. FM radio occupies 88–108 MHz, and older CPU clocks, memory buses and shortwave bands are measured in MHz.
Gigahertz(GHz)
A gigahertz is one billion cycles per second. Modern processors clock at several GHz, and Wi-Fi, 5G and radar systems operate in the gigahertz range.
